	Species: Hedgehog Abilities: Super speed, spin dash, peel out/figure eight. Age: Presumed 16; Unknown. Position: General hero of Planet Freedom.
Sonic the Hedgehog is the fastest thing around, and a powerful foe with his speed related powers. He has his usual array of super speed, spin dash, and the Peel Out - a move not seen since Sonic CD and Sonic Chaos/Triple Trouble on the Gamegear. He is, of coure, the protagonist. He's got a laid back attitude and has a little thing for the president's daughter. At first he doesn't want to help Robotnik, but after his crush proposes then he decides to...though Sonic still doesn't trust Robotnik.
	Species: Fox Abilities: Personal Flight, great speeds (almost as fast as Sonic) using his flight, technological skills, pilots the Tornado. Age: Presumed ~12; Unknown. Position: Sonic's best friend and sidekick.
Tails is the smart one of this story, with technological skills matched only by Robotnik himself. He looks to be about 12, though his age is never specified, like the other characters. He helps Sonic save the world. He is a bit immature, but then again he is much younger than Sonic and Knuckles, so it is to be expected. Sometimes he can be a little scared, but he still is everyone's favorite little guy.
	Species: Echidna Abilities: Incredible digging/excavation/archaelogical/geological skills, personal flying and gliding, great strength, and speed. Age: Presumed ~16; Unknown. Position: Treasure Hunter; good friend of Sonic and Tails.
Knuckles is one of the other few recognizable characters in this story. He's a treasure hunter with a cowboy hat, and excavating/digging skills matched by none. In this movie, his gliding power has been built on, so basically he can fly. He saves the two in their journey to Robotnikland, and stays with them through the rest of the journey. He is very dependable, and cool-headed. He'll think things through before rushing into them, but at the same time he has a temper. Quite a cool character, really.
	Species: Human Abilities: Incredibly smart/intelligent, massive technological skill. Age: Unknown. Position: Evil Genius.
The rival and yet the funniest character. He's been kicked out of Robotnikland by a “Dark Robotnik”. One can not say too much about him without spoiling a large part of the movie, but his story surely is fishy, as Sonic says. He is technologically gifted and funny, and though he may seem too dumb in his own way for things to ever work his way, he is actually very dangerous.
	Species: Human/Furry Abilities: Cat-like scratching/biting/kicking, extreme annoyance. Age: Presumed ~16/Unknown. Position: Presiden't Daughter, Sonic's crush.
The president's daughter, and Sonic's crush. She was held hostage by Robotnik along with her ditsy dad. She is really loud and sometimes annoying. Sera is a little spunky, and doesn't take crud from any one. She can be a cry baby to, and her little kitty tail and kitty ears seem to move along with her emotions like a real cat. She is quite a handful, and Robotnik – the pervert – wants her to be his bride.
	Species: Unknown Abilities: Strength, firepower (guns and goo), flight. Age: Unknown. Position: Evilness.
Dark Robotnik is the mysterious being that Doctor Robotnik claims overran his kingdom with his dark army, and took over the Land of Darkness. Robotnik claims he is going to allow the robot generator to blow up and cause massive destruction if Sonic does not stop him. Sonic has his doubts about this mysterious character's existence, but he has to check it out nonetheless.
	Species: Robot Abilities: Strength, super speed, flight. Age: Unknown. Position: Evilness.
A mysterious, powerful clone of Sonic created by Doctor Robotnik. Nothing more can be said without spoiling parts of the movie.
