The Sonic World New Year's Resolutions

I liked this post so much, I decided to immortalize it in the first THT issue of the new year. Enjoy!

Hello Everyone, We (the staff of The Sonic World) have quite a bit planned for 2006. Although '05 was a very good year, we want to return to our roots - information. Our media mad us big, and that's great, but The Sonic World is still a general site and we believe we need to return to that. So, let me get started:

We planned to have the New Neo Gaming Sector up by the end of the summer - obviously that didn't happen, but it needs to be. I can't give much of a definite date for its release - it may be a while as there is much we want to get done, but it will be in the first half of 2006. Birthday Bash at the latest.

I want to expand our profiles. We need more profiles on all the characters in the different Sonic-verses, not just the main ones. We need to reach out to our fanbase more - you all know your Sonic. If we can get some dedicated members to send us profiles, screenshots, even media, we could get much more on TSW. People who get Nintendo Power could scan any Sonic articles and send them to us; etc. We really need to ask people to help us help them whenever they can.

I'm not going to keep it a badly hidden secret anymore - DevlinTH and I, along with the rest of the staff, have a new layout for The Sonic World in the works. We hope it will be up relatively soon, but I don't want to release any dates as of yet.

The Comics Section will be revamped, the NGS will be redone, and much more information added in all generally. We have the media edge, we just need to go above and beyond with the latest news, more information, and a new, stylized look with more space for special announcements and the like.

I want to go back to what I said a few paragraphs ago. This year, I really want to reach out to our citizens more. We the Staff can't do it all on our own. Knuxman and I are in high school, and having a heck of a time with that. The rest of our staff also have school, some jobs, and general lives to live outside of the Online Sonic-Verse. So if you have profiles for characters we don't, news, game screenshots, magazines with Sonic articles, willing to scan comic covers and all this like, we would very much appreciate it. This is the kind of stuff we can put up gradually and really build up The Sonic World. So if you have the time to do this kind of stuff, and do it well (please only send stuff of good enough quality that we could put it up without having to edit out bad grammar and the like) we would really appreciate it.

Thanks to all. Tailsfanatic out. Happy New Year.

1/7/05 - Through the Years and Far Away.

An article that was written on The Sonic Stadium mentioned a deeper meaning to the theme song written for Sonic from the game Sonic Adventure. The stated idea was that SEGA would continue as they had previously and would not change based on the ideas of others. Through the years SEGA has created several different systems and technologies. From arcade machines to a personal computer. Each time they have developed their own system, usually with the most advanced technology. SEGA's systems were usually ahead of their competitors (a technique which Nintendo is now attempting to use). But now that SEGA no longer makes systems and instead Sonic Team creates games for many different companies, have they stayed true to form?

In Sonic Adventure, Sonic's levels stayed true to form as did those where one played as Tails or Amy. Yet certain other aspects of the game were wholly new. For some it was a welcome difference. For others it wasn't what Sonic games were about to them. Now a new game is coming out. Shadow the Hedgehog, a game that contains the central points of speeding hedgehogs from Sonic Team, yet has a wholly different attitude and goal about the game. Some would say that all things change, this is true. Some would say that the games now are better than before while others would disagree. With this idea in mind, let's take a look through a comparison of changes that have occurred through the years.

In the original Sonic the Hedgehog, Yuji Naka created a game composed of speed. StH's main point was that he moved faster than anyone else and was a hero. This same theme has progressed through most of the games currently. In Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic is a cool blue figure of exceptional speed and heroism. In Sonic Heroes the same is true. Now while the central point of Sonic has remained essentially the same, as there have been a few sidetracks in games such as Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2, a few other factors have changed. Aside from the basic control and action changes in the games, Sonic has changed to a cultural icon. Popularity has caused Sonic & Co. to change into more of what the populace want. So only a few superficial changes have occurred. Sonic is mainly what it has always been, a game based on speed, skill, and fun.
